Wow...talk about a blast from the past!
Going through my things for no particular reason, I found my box full of sculptures from my senior year of high school - for right now, this was the highlight of my life as an artist. This is a mask I made as part of my senior project. I made 5 of them but I only wanted to share a select few with you guys. As you can see, I made a mold of my own face in order to create these masks. This particular mask was inspired by the facial make-up of Kabuki actors. Sadly, I don't know their meaning, only that it looks really intimidating...perhaps that of a water spirit? I made the marking with a kind of ceramic paint (that I forget the name of now) that you paint directly on the clay before you fire it in the kiln. The end result was really fantastic! kabuki is copyrighted to Sarah Larson. DO NOT COPY, STEAL, OR ALTER IN ANYWAY! |
